DKF www.dkf.museum.no

The above cultural group is registered as a non-profit organization for the purpose of preserving the cultural history surrounding the iron foundries in and around the city of Bergen.

On the following pages you will find names of foundries such as Prahl Jernstøperi, Laxevaag Verk, Damsgård Jernstøperi, Wingaard Jernstøperi, Huun Verkene and Bergen Mekaniske Verksted.

These were by no means all of the foundries in Bergen, but they represent the industry, in which the production of stoves, for the average homes as well as for the shipping industry, was the main product line.

In addition to heating sources, they produced various household items to be used in connection with these heating appliances.

Common for all the foundries in Bergen, were that they did not have an ironworks source in the vicinity, but to a great degree depended on imported iron or scrap metal. One can justify the word recycling, for many of their production items.

The artistry behind some of these products is fascinating. Knowing the hardship and labor it took to create even the smallest item, we feel the following pages of products produced, is a wonderful presentation of craftsmanship for the time period 1845 to 1958 from Bergen, Norway.

We welcome you to browse through these pages and we hope you will find both culture and art combined in this picture presentation.

The other pages are in Norwegian and deals more indebt with the history
of the founding fathers of the foundries.

These pages are constantly being updated, as more information is received.
